Sunscreen-Whats in your bottle?

I’m so happy that the sun is shining but it also means that its a time to slather on that sunscreen! Just the thought of it makes me feel lazy! My toddler enjoys screaming in my face while doing tumbles as I try to sunscreen him up! When I have a sunscreen I love to use, particularly if it smells amazing and I know it is doing him so much good along with the obvious keeping him from burning, It makes the chore that bit more enjoyable! When choosing a sunscreen it can be hard because there is so much on the market. We have the best natural sunscreens out there and you don’t need to spend a bomb for a good quality one that works perfect and still looks after you and your families health! The skin is an organ that absorbs much of what is put on it, and the vast majority of synthetic ingredients in everyday skin care products haven’t been tested for health or long-term safety, and I’m not interested in being their test dummy!

Another great reason to choose a natural sunscreen is that fragrances and synthetic ingredients can really irritate the body and skin. Many people experience sensitivities, allergies and breakouts that we often take for granted but is often caused by harsh chemical ingredients. Ingredients from nature are bio-compatible with the skin in a way that synthetic ingredients can never be – they also co-operate with your skin, nourish and make it glow with health. With a completely natural skincare regime, your skin can have a luminosity that is really glowing from within.

And of course- 100% natural skin care is much better for you! With ingredients that you can trust not to mention pronounce that literally feed the skin with minerals, nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants. Synthetic chemical ingredients in sunscreens that come from labs are often made from petroleum and coal tar, I would much prefer to choose herbs and flowers grown from a field.

when trying to choose a sunscreen stay clear of the following ingredients whenever possible…

– Parabens: Used in a dizzying amount of grooming and skin care products from sunscreens, moisturisers to make-up. This group of compounds which are extensively used as preservatives have been linked to cancer.

-Synthetic fragrance: a clever marketing term that actually masks a list of hundreds of chemical fragrances that have not been tested for safety.

-phthalates (banned in Europe!): these are chemicals that actually disrupt our nervous and endocrine systems; they are particularly dangerous because of their ability to build up in the body. Look out for labels with Ingredients like ‘dibutyl phthalate’ especially if buying sunscreen when traveling outside Europe.

– colours or synthetic dyes: often listed as FD&C or D&C. They are often made from coal tar, which is completely unnatural which has also been linked to cancer in scientific studies.

– petrolatum: A common ingredient used in skincare products and another word for petroleum. Used extensively in lots of moisturising products as it forms a barrier on the skin which traps in the moisture, however it has questionable origins and hasn’t been tested for safety. Best to avoid that one too.
